What to expect at the Flicks this Weekend...

 

Is this your first trip to the Schuylkill to watch your kid race? 

 

Here’s some info which I wish someone had shared with me before my first race:

 

The directions can be a bit confusing.  If you park at the top of the hill, and walk all the way down the path, the OC tent is usually very close to where you come out of the path.  Look for the red tent.  We’re usually set up in the middle of the river, but closer to the St. Joe’s boathouse, not near the grandstand at the end of the race course.

 

You will be charged for parking.  $10-15 for these early races.  That goes up as we get into the championship season (Stotesbury, Cities).

 

Regatta Central is your friend (www.regattacentral.com).  You can find info about most of our races on this site.  You’ll find race times and line-ups (“heat sheets”) and results.  If you click on Ocean City under the “Clubs” link, you’ll see

 

Ladies:  the only bathroom facilities on the Schuylkill are port-a-potties.  Just thought you should know.  Also, sometimes they run out of TP, and it’s a good idea to bring your own. Oh, and hand santizer!

 

Bring a field chair. Bring warm clothes and boots (hiking are good).  It’s predicted to be cold on Sunday, and it’s even colder on the water.  The boots are for the mud:  Remember you’re standing next to a river.
